HOW DID YOU KNOW WHERE TO START?
Simple answer? We didn't!
We literally sat on our bed one day and started making phone calls.
Our first calls were to Perth clinics and we quickly learned of the wait list times. We have friends who had used Fertility First in NSW and thought it was worth the phone call. That was the call that got our journey rolling.
WAS IT EXPENSIVE?
Fertility treatment is an investment in creating your family.
Our rough estimate is about $20k (this included our appointments here in Perth and NSW, flights to SYD and accomodation). There was a Medicare rebate for us of approximately $4-5k and if you’re with a private health fund you might be entitled to other rebates but that is very much up to the individual.
HOW DID YOU FINANCE IT?
I was able to access my superannuation early for this which was very helpful. We chose to go through SuperCare who were incredibly supportive and really guided us through the process.
WHAT METHOD DID YOU USE?
We used IVF. We wanted our best possible chance given my family history.
HOW MANY ROUNDS OF IVF DID YOU DO?
We were incredibly blessed by a first round pregnancy.
WHAT CLINIC DID YOU USE?
Fertility First, Hurstville, NSW
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE A CLINIC IN ANOTHER STATE?
We chose to travel due to the sperm donor shortage in Perth. At the time we wanted to start a family there was a donor wait list of 12-18 months.
NSW has different legislation, which means they have access not only to Australian donors but also international ones which made their wait times significantly shorter, in fact we had no wait time at all and there was a larger pool of donors to decide from.
HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU TRAVEL TO NSW?
Once for 7 days when I was ready for egg collection, fertilisation and insemination.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FERTILITY FIRST?
100% YES absolutely! As daunting as the fertility journey can be the entire team at FF was incredible.
HOW DID YOU PICK YOUR DONOR?
When given the list of donors we were able to start identifying features and attributes that sat well with both Temira and I. We made a short list and then another until we had about 3 donors we were really happy with.

We purchased all our IVF medication through Concept Fertility here in Perth and they were amazing!
Our scans were all done through an SKG who sent our results directly to Fertility First.
We attended a psychologist appointment here in Perth through Concept Fertility and also did online Skype with Fertility First.
There are many great clinics in Perth that specialise in Fertility Treatment who are more than happy to help you get whatever tests you require for your journey.

HOW LONG DID THE PROCESS TAKE?
We started our research in early November 2018. By the end of December all our preliminary tests were complete. So in January of 2019 we began the medication. Our trip to NSW was in February which is when I had egg collection, fertilisation and insemination done. We found out on the 22nd February 2019 that we were pregnant!
